The West Campus Dope Shop was a place where students and faculty could grab a burger, milkshake, fries and yes, even cigarettes. Completed in 1930, it was located in the basement of West Union and is believed to have gotten its name from the once popular belief that Coke contained small amounts of cocaine. John F. Kennedy even ate there once on a visit before he announced his run for president. The shop closed in 1982, the same year the Bryan Center opened, marking the end of a 50-year tradition.
