Rose Bowl at Duke

In 1942, Duke and Oregon State played the first Rose Bowl held anywhere other than Pasadena, CA. President Franklin D. Roosevelt had urged extra caution for a potential second attack along the West Coast after Pearl Harbor a month before, and the Rose Bowl was canceled – until Duke stepped in. With nowhere else to play, Duke offered to host the game.
