Duke Students Attend Pride Reception at White House

Duke undergraduates Jacob Tobia, Elena Botella and Adrienne Harreveld attended a White House reception to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month on Friday, June 14, 2012. While there, the students delivered a letter written by Tobia – who has since become an LGBTQ activist, writer and producer – to President Barack Obama urging him to sign an executive order banning anti-LGBTQ workplace harassment and discrimination at companies that hold federal contracts. The students are joined by Duke LGBT Center director Janie Long, Marty Rouse of the Human Rights Campaign, and Rouse’s son.
