Duke Forest Surveying

Established in 1931, Duke Forest is the university’s biggest and oldest laboratory and outdoor classroom. It occupies 7,100 acres of teaching and research land stretching across Durham, Orange and Alamance counties. Clarence Korstian was the first director of the Duke Forest and founding dean of the School of Forestry. Researchers from all over the world use the forest and its decades of data that serves as a living natural history lesson.
