Despite substantial attention in the popular and professional press many psychologists may not fully understand the current and potential benefits, challenges, and ethical risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) and the use of mental health applications (apps) in psychology practice, education, research, and consultation. Although there are benefits to each of these modalities, there is increasing recognition of the associated ethical challenges. These challenges include the risk of exacerbating existing health inequities and unintentionally breaching the privacy of sensitive information.
This participatory workshop will provide an overview of AI technology and mental health apps designed to help psychologists better understand and more effectively manage the benefits and risks of these new technologies as we go forward in the rapidly evolving health care context. The workshop will include an opportunity for small group discussion and feedback from subject matter experts.
This program is intended to meet the North Carolina ethics continuing education requirement.
